Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Wikipedia:RfPP)
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – An IP user keeps changing the URL in infobox when it is not even broken. 98𝚃𝙸𝙶𝙴𝚁𝙸𝚄𝚂 [𝚃𝙰𝙻𝙺] 16:56, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Declined Not vandalism. Template:URL shoulnd't be used that way, 98Tigerius Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 15:55, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Bbb23 Please, it’s not disruptive editing, It’s a WP:RUSUKR enforcement, if not, all contentious topics would just be semi-protected. Protoeus (talk) 18:37, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: IP's and brand new users keep changing the lead to emphasize the Persianness of this Arabic-language work, often implying it is in fact written in Persian. It has been discussed to death on the talk page but the IP's keep doing it without paying any attention to discussion. This is a long-term issue as can be seen by scrolling the page history.--Ermenrich (talk) 18:11, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Skitash (talk) 18:33, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Protection expired today and it was immediately vandalised by several IPs/accouts. Will need longer-term protection I'm afraid. Aszx5000 (talk) 22:05, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – User Gurvir singh 123 keeps removing content from the article based on their personal viewpoint. Requesting adequate page protection to prevent this disruption by a new user. MaplesyrupSushi (talk) 23:49, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Bbb23 (talk) 17:17, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Suggest indefinite autoconfirmed protection. Almost every edit to the page for the last four (if not fourteen) years has been vandalism by IPs or new/few-edit accounts, or reverts thereof. As long as the long-running IRL debate (among people who like or dislike warlocks) over what the word 'really means' continues, I see no reason to think on-wiki vandalism will ever stop. Few if any productive edits are made to this page by non-autoconfirmed editors; indeed, other than vandalism and reverts thereof, few edits are made to the page at all (cf. the few differences between 2021, 100 revisions ago, and now). -sche (talk) 01:20, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Extended confirmed protection: Arbitration enforcement – Disruptive editing by COI editors. C F A 💬 01:59, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Hello administrator, I am sorry to bug you, but I just realized that it is likely a former disgruntled employee is a new editor who added a whole paragraph (last paragraph under research) that cited dubious sources to make his personal opinion known. This paragraph includes references to a linkedin post, a medium article, and some other company websites that are not related to the article at hand. The information in that paragraph simply cannot be found via these cited sources and is only known among the current and former employees of Polymathic AI. I hope there is a way to move the article back to its former form before August 2024? Thanks for helping! 173.72.38.219 (talk) 04:05, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – It seems like this talk page gets frequently edited with useless commentary by IPs and new accounts, and is unlikely to get good requests. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 06:57, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Continual unsourced additions from IP editors. Previously had a one year 'pending changes' protection lock for disruptive editing, however the disruptive editing has persistent since the protection ended Michaeldble (talk) 16:08, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – WP:LTA/BMX target since 10:36, 19 June 2024‎. Normally I wouldn't request protection on a talk page, but there's been zero constructive discussion in months, just vandalism. Alith Anar 16:56, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Hopefully submitting the right request level this time around; IP range edit-warring to attempt to force their preferred plot summary; haven't engaged with Talk page discussion. DonIago (talk) 19:26, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: I request the protection of the Mali war page, due to the additions of Bazinga2234 who is trying to relay conspiracy theories. Thank you. Tan Khaerr (talk) 20:20, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: Its been 2 months and the edits are slowing down, 2 edit requests, plus most of the drama is on the assassination attempt not crooks himself 2D Is Better Than 3D (talk) 01:11, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@2D Is Better Than 3D: This page was protected under the auspices of a contentious topic (post-1992 politics of the United States) and cannot be unilaterally unprotected. Appeal the protection at WP:Arbitration/Requests/Enforcement or WP:Arbitration/Requests/Clarification and Amendment. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v threads critiques 03:36, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: This page has been protected for over a decade, and is only now getting more attention thanks to a user expanding it. Maybe it'd help if this page could be unprotected, because everyone could help the user expanding the page. I myself made an edit request to fix a typo, and, if necessary, this page could have pending changes instead. There also hasn't been much disruption to this page in a while. Only now is it higher traffic than it has been even before the protection. 12.74.154.15 (talk) 20:18, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
